BLOC PARTY 'HELICOPTER'
The term 'buzz band' might as well have been invented for these guys. Bloc Party are the latest bunch of funky, art school rockers who've obviously listened to The Smiths' back catalogue many times.
Hailed by the NME as the best thing since, er, Razorlight (that's all of two months ago), Helicopter fuses elements of The Clash with the club-tastic energy of America's The Rapture and wraps it up in the usual post-punk (upfront bass, disco drums) production dressing. It's a competent and very day-after-tomorrow sound, so if you missed the Franz Ferdinand boat why not check next year's version out now?
