Madonna has landed her first leading movie role since the truly hideous Swept Away nearly sank her film career. However, the Material Girl won't be seen on screen, instead she is to lend her voice to Arthur, a new big-budget CGI project from French filmmaker Luc Besson.
The movie will centre on a ten-year-old boy who, desperate to save his Grandfather's home from developers, goes looking for a treasure trove in a strange land populated by small people who live in harmony with nature. Madonna will play a character called Princess Selenia.
Besson is adapting the screenplay from his own series of children's books and the movie is due to reach us sometime in 2006.
